With the release of a fascinating new study into the matter, this week Ideal Wine Company asks; who’s more likely to drink a whole bottle of wine at home on their own?
Enjoying a Little ‘You’ Time With a Full Bottle
You can’t build up a reputation as a supplier of luxury vintages from every corner of the globe for reasonable prices, like the Ideal Wine Company has, without holding a deep enthusiasm and respect for the drink in question. Wine is a passion!
As such, we understand the need to sometimes simply curl up in front of a roaring fire, grab a little ‘you’ time, and guzzle down a bottle of wine. Not that we advocate you do it often, but every once in a while is fine.
Women Most Likely to Indulge
That’s why when we stumbled upon an article in Telegraph, telling us who was most likely to do so, we were hooked. A study was conducted on the matter by The Grocer, a trade magazine, surveying 2,000 customers.
It found that women are the most likely to drink a bottle of wine at home on their own. 16% admitted to doing so, whilst only 14% of men said the same. Furthermore, the study also found that as far as age groups go, those aged between 25 and 34 were the most likely to drink a whole bottle of wine at home on their own (20%), followed by 19% of 45-54 year olds.
Exploring the Issue of Binge Drinking
The study also looked at the issue of binge drinking. It found that most people are ignoring the recommended alcohol unit intake measures; 2-3 units per day for women and 3-4 for men. They are knocking back, on average, 10 units in one sitting.
The Grocer commented on this finding, saying that “despite this, only 14 per cent confess to drinking in excess, suggesting that the government’s advice on alcohol has failed to get through to some consumers.”
Indulge Every Once in a While
What we’ve taken away from this is that of course, you should drink wine moderately, however it’s ok to indulge every once in a while. Life is short, and honestly, it often runs by a lot smoother if you take just a little time, every once in a while, to enjoy a bottle on your own.
