Glass of Red Wine as Good for You as Hour in the Gym

Parties broke out around the Ideal Wine Company office this week when we heard that one glass of red wine is as good for you as an hour in the gym.

The Luxury Wine Experts

Because we are dedicated to supplying a range of luxury vintages for reasonable prices, we’d like to think we’re something of an expert here at the Ideal Wine Company when it comes to wine.

That means we’ve heard every wine health myth known to man. Most turn out to be as fake as a £2 Gucci handbag, yet there’s one that seems to hold weight. Red wine is good for you when drunk in moderation. New evidence has given us one more reason to believe in the health benefits of a glass of red wine.

What Can You Do With a Glass of Red Wine?

According to, a new study has shown that one glass of red wine is as good for your health as a whole hour in the gym.

Conducted by Canada’s University of Alberta, the research concluded that a glass of red wine can improve muscle strength, heart function and physical performance. This leads us to ask; why? What is it about red wine that’s so good for you?

The Wonders of Resveratrol

The University of Alberta-led study confirmed what every other study on the health of red wine has revealed. Red wine is good for you because it contains resveratrol.

The study’ lead researcher Jason Dick explained how these findings could help people who struggle finding the motivation to get fit. Dick suggested that “I think resveratrol could help patient populations who want to exercise but are physically incapable.” The researcher went on to comment that “resveratrol could mimic exercise for them or improve the benefits of the modest amount of exercise that they can do.”

Music to Our Ears

When we heard this it was like music to our ears here at the Ideal Wine Company. We don’t have to go to the gym anymore! If you’re like us and you’d prefer to get fit through wine why not start with a bottle of Burgundy red from the Ideal Wine Company today!
