Surprisingly complicated

Temperatures have started to soar. Soon enough you’re going to need a drink to help you resist the seductive pull of the summer heat, and we’ve got just the thing to quench your thirst; the white wine spritzer.

The white wine spritzer is everything the classic summer tipple is supposed to be; light, frothy, fruity with just a pinch of bite. You might be about to think to yourself “it’s also really easy to make,” but you’d be wrong. The white wine spritzer is surprisingly complicated to concoct. It takes a real mixologist with a penchant for measures to get the white wine spritzer right.

What you’ll need

Since we doubt you have a mixologist to spare, why don’t you just keep reading instead? We know how to whip up a white wine spritzer that’ll knock your socks off. With this drink it’s all about the measures so you’ll need half a cup of ice cubes, 85 millilitres of lemonade (don’t go for the supermarket’s own at the bottom of the shelf), 150 millilitres of quality white wine and a fruit of your choice to garnish.

How to make

If you get the measures right, it’s pretty easy to make a white wine spritzer that’ll go down a treat. Start by putting the ice into a cocktail glass, then pour in the wine and add the lemonade. Stir gently with a cocktail stirrer for about 30 seconds.

Here’s where it gets a little more complicated. We staunchly believe that you should add a garnish to make your drink pop, but the garnish you choose is completely up to you. Stick to what you know, what you love. If you a fan of melon balls, get balling, but if you prefer something simple like lemon or lime, simply cut off a thin slice and prop it on the rim of the glass.

Follow this recipe and you’ll be able to craft a white wine spritzer that’s mixed to perfection within the space of a few minutes. Try it once and you’ll be hooked; it really is the quintessential summer drink that’ll provide you with the relief you need as you laze in the garden under the heat of the British sun.
