The Ideal Wine Company has learned that in a new poll, top wine experts named Krug the most admired Champagne brand on earth.

Established in 1843, Krug is a truly luxury Champagne brand. The company, which is headquartered in Reims, uses all three Champagne grape varieties – Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay for its products, mainly releasing Grand Cuvées. Krug is owned by luxury goods group LVHM. The company also counts brands such as Veuve Clicquot, which just released an innovative marketing campaign targeted at millennials and Dom Perignon, as part of its Champagne portfolio. Boosted by high demand for products such as Krug, especially in America, LVMH saw its Champagne and wine earnings rise by 13% last year, according to Decanter.
Most admired brands
The enduring popularity of Krug was highlighted by The World’s Most Admired Champagne Brands – an annual poll carried out by industry magazine Drinks International. The publication questioned over 200 of the planets top wine masters, sommeliers, educators and journalists to determine which brands the Champagne industry most admires.
Krug topped the poll, followed closely by Louis Roederer and Pol Roger. The latter rose an astonishing 17 places from last year’s index. Meanwhile, 12 brands vaulted up the rankings to attain new highs this year and eight brands fell out of favour, dropping down the rankings in the same stretch of time.
Commenting on the release the surveys editor, Christian Davis, said: “Once again, the findings may raise a few eyebrows among the ferment that comprises the Champagne and wine trade. But bear in mind, this is not a science – it is about people’s perceptions. But these are the perceptions of people who work in the trade, buying, selling, listing wine all the time. They are the professionals. Dismiss their views and our findings at your peril.”
